What is new in Incubateer: eligibility you can trust

Requirements are now shown upfront

Grant cards used to stay silent about a scheme's requirements unless we could prove you failed them. That sounds cautious. In practice it meant a founder with an incomplete profile saw Strong match on a scheme whose own rules would reject them, and found out weeks later.

Requirements are now stated as facts about the grant, because they are true regardless of who is reading. A card can say Requires DPIIT or Under 2 years only without knowing anything about you. Where we can check your status the requirement turns red and the verdict drops. Where we cannot, it stays neutral and the card offers one tap to resolve it.

The bug we are least proud of

Two profile fields, DPIIT recognition and Udyam registration, defaulted to no rather than unanswered. Signup wrote a no for questions it never asked.

The result: every founder was on record as lacking both registrations, and grant cards acted on it. The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, probably the most applied-to scheme in the country, showed as Likely not eligible and dimmed, with a tooltip explaining that your profile says you do not have DPIIT recognition. Nobody had said that.

Not knowing and answering no are now stored differently, and a migration cleared the values that were never anyone's answer. If you are asked about DPIIT or Udyam again, that is why.

Match scores mean something again

Strong match needed a high score and one matching detail. Stage counted as that detail, and nearly every scheme open to idea-stage founders matches an idea-stage founder, so it said almost nothing.

Three generic incubators were leading results as Strong match on stage alone, while a fund that genuinely matched the founder's sector sat below them as Possible fit. A strong match now needs something beyond stage. A high score with only a stage match is Worth a look, which is what it is.

Fewer grants you cannot win

Several ranking problems shared one cause: a mismatch cost nothing. Only matches moved the score, so anything vaguely relevant drifted upward.

• Sector-locked programmes leaked to everyone. Tags like DeepTech, AI and IoT were treated as open to any sector when they are specific verticals. A hardware-only incubator reached software founders this way. Naming sectors that do not include yours now counts against a grant rather than being free.
• The dashboard filled with venture funds. Act on these this week had no filter on funding type and ordered by most recently added, so a batch of newly imported funds took every slot, each behind an Apply button. You do not apply to a venture fund.
• Other states' schemes ranked as if you could apply. A Kerala founder was shown a scheme restricted to another state above national ones they were eligible for.

Alerts that do not go quiet

Setting an alert stores the grant by name. When a grant was renamed the alert silently stopped matching, and a founder who asked to hear when a scheme reopened simply never heard.

Alerts now reattach using the grant's saved id or apply link, so a rename no longer breaks them. If a grant has genuinely left the catalog, usually because its application page went dead, you are told once rather than waiting for an alert that will never fire.

Apply links, on a schedule

A dead Apply button is the thing this product exists to prevent, so link verification should not depend on anyone remembering to run it. It now runs weekly on its own.

This is ongoing rather than finished. A meaningful share of the catalog still has links we have not verified, and we would rather say that than imply every link is checked.

Where we serve, said plainly

The country list at signup now covers India and the Gulf, which is where we can genuinely support a founder today, with verified links and eligibility checks that reflect local schemes.

The catalog has not shrunk. It still indexes 9,500+ grants including programmes open worldwide, all searchable. If you are outside the service area you can still sign up and search, and the form now says where we are strongest instead of implying we are equally good everywhere.

What is next

The honest gap is verification depth, not catalog size. A large share of India grants carrying a real funding amount still lack a verified apply link, and closing that is worth more than adding more listings. If something in the product tells you a thing that turns out not to be true, that is a bug worth reporting, and the kind we will prioritise.

Why am I seeing fewer venture funds on my dashboard?

The Act on these this week panel is for things you can apply to by a date, and a venture fund is not one. Funds remain in the catalog and in search, and are no longer shown behind an Apply button on that panel.

Has the grant catalog got smaller?

No. The signup country list is now India and the Gulf, which describes where we can support founders, but nothing was removed from the catalog. It still indexes 9,500+ grants including programmes open worldwide.

Are all apply links verified?

Not yet. Verification now runs on a weekly schedule rather than manually, and a share of the catalog is still unverified. Links flagged as dead are removed only after being confirmed dead twice.
